CIMR Teachers Training Institute

To spread the opportunity of special education to a greater number of people, CIMR runs teachers training courses. CIMR trains special teachers, who have competence and dedication. A two-year course leading to ‘Diploma in Special Education recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India, and short term courses are also conducted. Started in 1980 CIMR has so far trained 55 batches and trained over 1000 teachers. At present the 56thand 57thbatches are undergoing training.

CIMR started training teachers in 1980, at a time where there was no facility of special education in Kerala. There were no trained personnel available in Kerala. It was at that time Fr. Felix introduced short term training for teachers who were willing to work with the intellectually challenged children. He developed his own method of training the teachers. It was this initiative that led to the beginning of several special schools in different parts of Kerala.
